Trisha Goodall, Resident in Counseling
I am a Resident in Counseling and a Resident in Marriage and Family Therapy at Full Life Counseling. I’m training in EFCT (Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy) and have advanced training in trauma and perinatal mental health. I offer attachment-based, experiential therapy for individuals and relationships (couples, polycules, or families).
I hold firm to the family therapy concept that “all behavior makes sense in context.” There is wisdom within each of us, even when life, relationships, or society have made it hard to hear or trust that inner knowing. I see you as a whole person, shaped by the world you move through. Your race, gender, sexuality, and ability shape your world, and all of it is welcome here. My role isn’t to “fix” you, but to help you make sense of what’s happening and reconnect with what you already know about yourself. Together, we can discover what’s possible from there, which might mean challenging patterns that once helped but are no longer serving you.
I’m especially passionate about supporting folks through the perinatal and family-building phase of life. Isolation and disconnection often creep in during this season, but it’s also an opportunity for deepening relationships and reshaping self-image. My collaboration with Postpartum Support Virginia has been foundational in understanding my own experience but also helping me to expand my knowledge base to support parents of all kinds.
The following books have influenced my therapeutic approach:
I Don’t Want to Talk About it: Overcoming the Secret Legacy of Male Depression
by Terrence Real
Come as You Are by Emily Nagoski
Ordinary Insanity: Fear and the Silent Crisis of Motherhood in America by Sarah Menkedick
All about Love by bell hooks
Living Beautifully: With Uncertainty and Change by Pema Chodron
The State of Affairs by Esther Perel
Hold Me Tight by Sue Johnson
Hill Women by Cassie Chambers
